Sunderland AFC’s first community sports facility, designed by Red Box Design Group, is now complete.
Sunderland AFC have signed a partnership deal with an African mining business Acacia Mining to roll-out their community sports initiatives to sites across the north west region of Tanzania.
The partnership will enable the Premier League club to work with local football clubs in the Kahama and Tarime districts of Tanzania. It forms part of Acacia's corporate social responsibility programme.
"We have already implemented a number of significant community-based work across Africa, with particular emphasis on Tanzania and the club is making great progress in developing its international reputation," said Gary Hutchinson, Sunderland's commercial director.
The Black Cats already have a long-standing Tanzanian partnership with Symbion Power, the highlight of which is the Jakaya M. Kikwete Youth Park in Dar es Salaam, where the club are providing technical and practical support to the park.
